WILA: Building the Future of Wellness Together
Running a studio means wearing many hats beyond teaching classes. Studying new movement trends, adapting to diverse client needs, training instructors — the list goes on. But I’ve learned that I’m not alone in facing these challenges.
Meeting fellow professionals who share the same concerns opened my eyes to things I couldn’t see on my own. At the center of that connection is WILA — the Wellness Industry Leaders Association.

What Is WILA and Why Does It Matter?
WILA is a professional association connecting Pilates, yoga, fitness, and barre specialists for education, networking, and industry standards development.
WILA stands for Wellness Industry Leaders Association (웰니스산업리더협회). It’s an organization founded by professionals across the wellness spectrum — Pilates instructors, yoga teachers, fitness trainers, and barre specialists — who came together with a shared purpose.
In our industry, most professionals run independent studios or small centers. They’re highly skilled but often work in isolation. WILA bridges that gap, connecting wellness leaders who were previously scattered across the field.
The association’s core activities fall into three pillars:
| Pillar | What We Do | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Education | Evidence-based training programs, latest research | Workshops on Motor Control, biomechanics for golf |
| Networking | Cross-discipline seminars, expert exchange | Pilates × yoga × barre × fitness roundtables |
| Standards | Quality benchmarks, certification guidance | Advocating for rigorous instructor training |

What Is Your Role as Vice President?
I share my studio experience, movement science research, and global seminar insights within the association while focusing on building members’ business capabilities.
I currently serve as Vice President of WILA. When I first joined, my goal was simply to connect with fellow professionals. But what I’ve discovered through this work is that these connections don’t just foster individual growth — they raise the standard of the entire industry.
The experience I’ve built running mm Pilates and mm Barre & Yoga, the movement science research from my studies at Chung-Ang University, and the global perspective gained through fonv international seminars — I share all of this within the association while learning from the expertise of other leaders.
Recently, I’ve been particularly focused on helping wellness professionals strengthen their business capabilities. Creating excellent classes is essential, but knowing how to sustain them as a viable business is equally important.
Why Does Collaboration Matter in the Wellness Industry?
Rapid quantitative growth has outpaced quality standards, making shared expertise — rather than competition — essential for sustainable industry development.
Korea’s wellness market has been growing steadily year after year. Post-pandemic, interest in health has surged, bringing a significant increase in people seeking Pilates and yoga. But whether qualitative growth is keeping pace with quantitative growth is a question worth asking.
Certification programs have multiplied, yet the quality of education varies widely. Consumers struggle to find qualified instructors, and instructors struggle to envision a clear career path. These aren’t problems any individual can solve alone.
What WILA champions is sharing over competition. By exchanging expertise, we raise the overall standard — and ultimately provide a better experience for everyone who seeks wellness services.
What Is WILA’s Vision Going Forward?
WILA aims to expand education programs, welcome more wellness professionals, and elevate the professionalism and credibility of the entire industry.
WILA is more than a professional network. It’s a committed effort to elevate the professionalism and credibility of the wellness industry — the organizational backbone behind the K-Wellness movement that’s reshaping global fitness.
Through fonv international seminars and events like the K-Pilates Convention, we’re actively bridging Korean wellness expertise with the global community. The same academic rigor that defines K-Pilates is what WILA champions for the entire industry.
Alone, we can only create small changes. Together, we can shift the direction of an entire industry.
